The main function of automobile body is to protect the driver and form a good aerodynamic environment. A good body can not only bring better performance, but also reflect the personality of the owner. In terms of form, automobile body structure is mainly divided into non bearing type and bearing type.
Body structure
Non bearing type
Vehicles with non load-bearing body have rigid frame, also known as chassis beam frame. The body is suspended on the frame and connected with elastic elements. The vibration of the frame is transmitted to the body through elastic elements, and most of the vibration is weakened or eliminated. In case of collision, the frame can absorb most of the impact force and protect the body when driving on bad roads. Therefore, the deformation of the car is small, the stability and safety are good, and the noise in the car is low.
However, this kind of non load-bearing body is bulky, has large mass, high vehicle centroid and poor high-speed driving stability.
Bearing type
The vehicle with load-bearing body has no rigid frame, but strengthens the front, side wall, rear, floor and other parts. The body and underframe together form the rigid spatial structure of the body. In addition to its inherent load carrying function, this load-bearing body also directly bears various loads. This form of body has large bending and torsional stiffness, small mass, low height, low vehicle centroid, simple assembly and good high-speed driving stability. However, because the road load will be directly transmitted to the body through the suspension device, the noise and vibration are large.
Semi bearing type
There is also a body structure between non load-bearing body and load-bearing body, which is called semi load-bearing body. Its body is rigidly connected with the underframe by welding or bolts, which strengthens part of the body underframe and plays the role of part of the frame. For example, the engine and suspension are installed on the reinforced body underframe, and the body and underframe are integrated to bear the load together. This form is essentially a load-bearing body structure without frame. Therefore, people usually only divide the automobile body structure into non load-bearing body and load-bearing body.
