The function of automobile instrument is to obtain the required data and display it in an appropriate way. The previous instruments were generally limited to 3 ~ 4 quantity displays and 4 ~ 5 warning functions. Now the new instruments have about 15 quantity displays and about 40 warning monitoring functions. Different information is obtained and displayed in different ways. At present, there are three main ways to obtain information of new instruments: transmission through body bus; Conversion through a / D sampling; Obtained through IO status change.
There are five main display modes:

The traditional speedometer is mechanical. A typical mechanical odometer is connected with a flexible shaft. The gear rotation drives the steel cable to rotate, and the steel cable drives a magnet in the odometer cover ring to rotate. The speedometer is simple and practical, and is widely used in large and small cars. However, with the development of electronic technology, many car instruments have used electronic speedometer. The common one is to obtain the signal from the speed sensor on the transmission and deflect the pointer or display the number through the change of pulse frequency.
Odometer is a kind of digital instrument, which makes the counter drum rotate by meshing the transmission gear of the counter drum with the worm on the transmission shaft of the speedometer. Its characteristic is that the upper level drum rotates for a whole circle and the lower level drum rotates for 1 / 10 circle. Like the speedometer, the odometer also has an electronic odometer, which obtains the mileage signal from the speed sensor. The mileage number accumulated by the electronic odometer is stored in the nonvolatile memory, and the state data can also be saved without electricity.
Another prominent instrument is the tachometer. In domestic cars, tachometers were generally not set in the past, but in recent ten years, tachometers have been installed in all types of cars, and some manufacturers also take them as the configuration content of car grade. The tachometer unit is 1 / min × 1000, which shows how many thousand revolutions the engine rotates per minute. The tachometer can intuitively display the speed of the engine under various working conditions. The driver can know the operation of the engine at any time, cooperate with the transmission gear and throttle position to keep it in the best working state, which is good for reducing fuel consumption and prolonging the service life of the engine.
