The main function of the engine timing belt is to drive the valve mechanism of the engine to open or close the inlet and exhaust valves of the engine at an appropriate time, so as to ensure that the engine cylinder can inhale and exhaust normally.
Application principle
The work of timing chain depends on high-strength metal chain to connect the sprockets of crankshaft and camshaft and keep them running synchronously. Because of the high-speed operation between metals, fast wear and high temperature, the corresponding lubrication system must be designed for cooling and lubrication. At the same time, when the timing chain is used in the engine design, there is also the problem of friction noise between metals. In order to solve this problem, the manufacturer needs to take various measures, such as the chain with optimized design. In order to solve these problems, it is bound to increase the design and manufacturing cost of the engine.
difference
Although the basic functions of “timing belt” and “timing chain” are the same, their working principle is still different.
There are many rubber teeth on the inner side of the timing belt. The timing belt uses these rubber teeth to cooperate with the groove on the top of the corresponding rotating parts (camshaft, water pump, etc.), so that the engine crankshaft can pull other running parts and keep the driven parts running synchronously. The timing belt can be regarded as a soft gear. At the same time, when the timing belt works, it also needs the cooperation of tensioner (automatically or manually adjust its tightness) and idler (guide belt running direction) and other accessories.
Compared with the timing chain, the timing belt has the characteristics of simple structure, no lubrication, quiet operation, convenient installation and maintenance, low manufacturing cost and so on. However, the timing belt is a rubber (hydrogenated butadiene rubber) component. With the increase of engine working time, the timing belt will be worn and aged. If it is not replaced in time, once the timing belt jumps or breaks, the action of the running parts of the engine will be disordered and the parts will be damaged. If the engine intake and exhaust valves and the engine piston move uncoordinated, resulting in collision damage.
